Broadcasters buy FIFA corruption doc

Blatter+copyrightSeveral broadcasters have acquired football corruption doc FIFA and the Price of Football, TBI has learned.

The one-off investigation, from Germany’s WDR, delves into the working practices of world football’s governing body as well as the alleged corruption scandal, which has this week engulfed the organisation.

It also looks at the living conditions of workers building World Cup stadiums and facilities. The sales come as controversial FIFA president Sepp Blatter seeks re-election today.

It originally went out on Germany’s WDR, as part of its Die story im Ersten current affairs strand.

Fifa-HQ+copyrightIn Austria ORF has bought the show and in Switzerland SRF/ RTS has picked it up.

Belgium’s VRT and NRK in Norway have also acquired the doc.

It is sold by Autentic Distribution, the joint venture sales house of WDR mediagroup and German doc firm Autentic.

The distributor has also fared well with another German-produced sports corruption doc Top Secret Doping: How Russia Makes its Winners.

Autentic said today other deals are in the works for doc FIFA and the Price of Football with the sales effort also continuing at the NATPE Europe market in Prague next month.
