ABC launches preschool app

Peppa_Pig-Sports-Icon-NEW2Australian pubcaster the ABC is launching an iPad app aimed at preschoolers.

ABC Kids iView will incorporate ABC Kids programming such as Peppa Pig and Bananas in Pyjamas with learning tools.

The ABC pointed to research that suggests Australian children aged 2-5 are more like to have access to tablets than kids other age groups, with up to 45% using one of their own and 84% using one with their parents or others.

“We know that young children and their parents are the most active of tablet and mobile users and ABC Kids iView places them at the heart of the viewing experience,” said ABC TV’s head of strategy and digital products, Rebecca Heap.

The new app is launching on the App Store, with other formats in development.

This comes as the ABC drops the ‘4’ from its kids brand ABC4Kids in order to create a consistent brand across its linear and digital platforms.
