Van Persie, Henry, Fabregas invest in Grabyo

Thierry HenryEnglish Premier League football legends Robin van Persie, Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas are among new investors in video sharing start-up Grabyo.

The real-time video company will also count NBA basketball player Tony Parker as an investor and global brand ambassador after the US$2 million funding round.

Grabyo’s cloud-based service allows broadcasters and rights holders to monetise social engagement around TV shows through instantly created-video clips, integrated sponsorship and advertising assets.

Adding the profile of the football and basketball stars would allow the firm to grow across Europe and North America, and would appeal to partners, the company said.

“As more people are able to enjoy video across social platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, the involvement of star talent will open up new distribution opportunities for broadcasters, rights holders and brands,” said Gareth Capon, Grabyo’s CEO.

“Being away from London makes it harder to keep up with what’s happening in European football,” said former Arsenal and current New York Red Bulls striker Henry.

“Grabyo makes it easy for fans to follow the action by making the best moments available in an instant. I am looking forward to helping the company grow.”

“I am looking forward to working with Grabyo to bring video highlights to my fans in real time,” added Fabregas, who plays for EPL league leaders Chelsea.
