TV sales aid DreamWorks Animation revenue

DreamWorks Animation has posted revenue of US$154.5 million and a US$10.1 million profit, in part thanks to sales from its DreamWorks Classics TV brands division.

jeffrey_katzenberg_hi_173While a large part of the numbers come from DreamWorks’ film business, TV operations posted revenue of US$18.2 million and gross profit of US$4.2 million in the three months to September 30. Cartoon Network’s DreamWorks Dragons: Riders of Berk was singled out as a growth driver, as were sales at DreamWorks Classics.

Online channel operator AwesomenessTV, which DreamWorks bought earlier this year, contributed revenue of US$3.6 million.

Overall company profit was down 59% on Q3 2012, however.

“Strength in our feature film segment is the single largest driver of our positive third quarter earnings,” said Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO, DreamWorks Animation. “It also continues to propel new areas of growth for DreamWorks Animation as we have now transitioned into a global, diversified family entertainment company.”
