Sinking Ship brings $30m slate to Cannes

Odd SquadCanada’s Sinking Ship Entertainment is bringing a slate it claims is worth US$30 million of production to MIPCOM, with a former ABC and CBC exec tapped to join the growing studio.

New series hitting the market include the 80x11mins PBS math series Odd Squad (pictured), 52x11mins CBC/SRC show Chirp, and 52x5mins Playdate, which is a live action puppet pre-schooler for Family Channel in Canada. Now You Know, What’s Inside and Giver, all preschool shows for TVO, also launch.

To handle the expanded slate, Sinking Ship has appointed former ABC Australia and CBC exec Carla de Jong to become head of production, while ex-Teletoon exec Gavin Fries has joined as creative director, interactive.

Furthermore, Sinking Ship, which is producing Annedroids for Amazon Prime Instant Video and best known for Dino Dan, is launching a pair of show currently in development, at MIPCOM.

One is the studio’s first teen comedy, which comes from Odd Squad’s Tim McKeon and Kevin Seccia (Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness) and a Dino Dan spin-off, Dino Dana.
