A-Dangerous-Fortune_first-stillGerman-based distributor Global Screen has taken international rights to A Dangerous Fortune, the upcoming two-part adaptation of the eponymous Ken Follett novel.

The period drama is set in mid-19th Century London and is centred on the story of a love affair between Hugh, a well-to-do banker’s son, and Maisie, a working class girl. The miniseries is being shot in Dublin at the moment.

The 1993 novel that inspired the series has sold seven million copies and been translated into 30 languages.

German pubcaster ZDF with Constantin Television and Network Movie are coproducing the TV series. It will deliver to ZDF late next year and Global Screen has full international rights outside Germany. The distributor will be preselling the show for the first time in Cannes.

A Dangerous Fortune is a very contemporary, profound fairy tale about human desires and inner turmoil,” said director Christian Schwochow (The Tower). “For myself as director, the project is one big, colorful adventure playground: fascinating visual worlds, unusual characters, and an international cast and crew.”
