In-demand charts: Spain (15 – 21 May 2016)

TBIv_InDemand_Spain_siteOur latest fortnightly feature in association with Parrot Analytics reveals the most in-demand shows from another European territory.

Top10_Digital_SpainSpain’s most popular digital original is Narcos.

The Pablo Escobar-inspired drama was streaming service Netflix’s first big Spanish-language – or more accurately Spanish and English-language – play and its success in Spain is therefore unsurprising.

Spanish viewers also love a prison drama.

Locked Up on Antena 3 has gone on to sell well internationally, and Netflix’s Orange is the new Black ranks as the second most popular digital offering.

The popularity of Narcos and Orange is the New Black is such that they also make the overall in-demand top ten, beating US network TV juggernauts The Big Bang Theory and Grey’s Anatomy.

Netflix originals make up the bulk of the digital top ten, with Hulu’s time-travel drama 11.22.63, and hit Amazon comedy Transparent the only exceptions.

HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo may have fallen on his sword in the past few days, but he can claim to have been in charge when HBO launched global mega hit Game of Thrones.

The fantasy epic was by some distance the most in-demand show, registering twice the numbers of second-placed The Walking Dead, another international smash hit.

In third Pretty Little Liars shows Spanish viewers’ fondness for mystery drama and the US cable show is very much in demand. Fans will need to make the most of the current season of the show, however, as Freeforma (fka ABC Family), has cancelled it.

Showtime’s gothic horror Penny Dreadful ranks fourth, ahead of Fear the Walking Dead. Norse warriors also make the list with MGM-distributed Vikings placed seventh.
