MIPCOM Hot Pick: The Fall

Gillian Anderson in The Fall

The Fall is a psychological thriller that sees a high-powered detective (Gillian Anderson) attempt to find a ruthless serial killer (Jamie Dornan).

It is Anderson’s first lead role since The X-Files. Her character Stella Gibson is drafted from London’s Met Police to track the killer, who is operating in Belfast and selecting his victims at random.

As with another police show with a female lead, Prime Suspect, other cops initially resent her, but she uses her expertise to look at the case from new angles.

Produced by Artists Studio, the indie founded by former Channel 4 (UK) head of drama Gub Neal, the show is written by Allan Cubitt who was a writer on Prime Suspect.

“I found the scripts so compelling and addictive; I just knew that we had to distribute the programme,” says Greg Phillips, president of Content Television. “Crime drama is very much in vogue globally at the moment but The Fall, whilst it has crime at its heart, is very different and thought provoking. Having Emmy and Golden Globe Award winning Gillian Anderson on board along with other key cast and production talent takes it to another level and really makes it eye catching above other drama available right now.”

Content is sharing distribution duties with ZDF Enterprises. The commercial arm of the German public broadcaster has most of Europe and Content the rest of the world
