M6 acquires raft of US series

French commercial broadcaster M6 has acquired a raft of US series after striking content deals with a number of Hollywood studios.

This comes less than a month after the RTL-owned company announced plans to cut its program budget in response to a fall in advertising revenues and is a further signal that the broadcaster will be relying less on local productions and more on international acquisitions.

It has picked up Twentieth Century Fox’s biker drama Sons of Anarchy and Tim Roth-fronted psychological drama Lie to Me and Sony Pictures Television’s legal drama Damages, which stars Glenn Close.

The broadcaster has also struck a deal with CBS Paramount International Television to air 90210, The CW’s Beverly Hills 90210 teen spin off, recently cancelled adult drama Swingtown and CBS’ midseason 13-part horror series Harper’s Island.

The majority of shows will air on the broadcaster’s main channel but some series may air initially on its digital channels, which include W9, Paris Premiere and Teva.
