Revolution options Red Riding follow-up 1984

Revolution Films, the independent film and television production company set up by Michael Winterbottom, has taken the rights to David Peace’s crime novel GB84.

This comes ahead of the launch of Revolution’s ambitious and dark three-part drama Red Riding, on UK broadcaster Channel 4, which is based on a quartet of novels from Peace.

GB84 is Peace’s fifth novel and follows the Red Riding series, which comprised the novels 1974, 1977, 1980 and 1983.

Executive producer Andrew Eaton told TBivision that it has optioned the follow up novel. “I think we’ll do it as a multipart series for television,” he says.

The producer hasn’t yet pitched it to broadcasters.

GB84 is a dark crime novel from the Yorkshire author set against the background of the 1984 Miners’ Strike.

Revolution is also currently in production with a number of movies including Killer Inside Me, based on the Jim Thompson novel, which stars Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson and John Goodman.
