Hulu ramps up originals with Clooney title

The Handmaid's Tale

Hulu is raising its stake in original programming as it brings in new title Catch-22, which will be executive produced by George Clooney.

The streaming service has made a full series order for Catch-22, a six-part limited series event from George Clooney, Paramount Television and Anonymous Content, based on the successful novel of the same name.

Clooney will also star in the series and portray Colonoel Cathcart. He will direct the series alongside his Smokehouse Pictures partner Grant Heslov.

The series will go into production in 2018. Richard Brown and Steve Golin will executive produce on behalf of Anonymous alongside Clooney and Heslov.

Luke Davis and David Michod will act as co-writers and executive producers for the series.

Catch-22 is a rare story that has withstood the test of time, not only as a literary masterpiece, but as a story that still resonates in today’s political and social conversation,” said Stillerman.

“These are exactly the types of stories we want to be programming at Hulu, and we couldn’t be happier to partner with George Clooney, Paramount TV and this phenomenal group of creatives to bring one of the most well-known books of all time to viewers in a way that has never been seen before.”

Catch-22 will arrive on Hulu after the platform’s success with its first original The Handmaid’s Tale, which will premiere its second series on 25 April 2018.

In the same wave, Hulu has also ordered the full series of popular drama ER after an agreement with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.
