Ex-Motion & C4 exec joins Reel One’s drama push

Dominic SchreiberDominic Schreiber, formerly of Channel 4 and Motion Content Group, has joined drama producer and distributor Reel One Entertainment.

Schreiber, who is also a former editor of TBI, has been named global drama executive at the Montreal-based company.

He was most recently executive producer of scripted at Motion (fka GroupM Entertainment), where he was EP of Sky1 drama The Last Dragonslayer.

His hire comes soon after Cleverman executive producer Adam Fratto joined as LA-based senior VP of TV series as part of a push into high-end drama.

Based in London, Schreiber will work closely with Fratto and SVP and head of distribution Louisa Cadywould to build a slate of series for the international drama market.

He will also look to forge relationships with writers, producers and broadcasters across Europe.

Along with Schreiber’s hire, Reel One has picked up screen rights to Philip K. Dick novella Second Variety, with showrunner David Titcher (Houdini and Doyle) attached to adapt.

The story follows the repercussions that arise when the US develops lethal military weaponry with artificial intelligence that ultimately threatens humanity.

It was previously adapted as 1995 film Screamers, and is now set for television, with Reel One producing in association with Charles W. Fries (Martian Chronicles) of the Fries Film Company. Australian producer Antony I. Ginnane (Patrick) will also executive produce.

Fries, whom has been described as ‘the Godfather of the TV movie’, worked with Reel One founder and CEO Tom Berry to bring Screamers to screen.

“As we grow our series business, we are looking for shows that are of the highest creative caliber, distinctive enough to cut through the global media clutter, suited for innovative business approaches, and a fit for our international distribution pipeline,” said Fratto.
