Antenna Group chairman Kyriakou dies

Minos Kyriakou, the founder and chairman of Greek broadcaster Antenna Group, has passed away aged 75.

He died suddenly from a heart attack, according to a statement from the Kyriakou family.

Antenna owns European networks such as ANT1, TV PRVA and B92.

Kyriakou, a shipping magnate, founded private station Antenna TV in 1989, and formally launched an expanded Antenna Group a decade later.

The firm now has offices throughout Europe, in the US, Asia and Australia, and recently brokered a deal to become the sole distributor of Viceland content across Central and Eastern Europe.

Besides his media interests, Kyriakou was a key shareholder in global oil shipping business Athenian Holdings, was chairman of non-profit organisation The Aegean Foundation, and was chairman of the Greek National Olympic Committee.

Antenna’s advisory board includes former Viacom International Media Networks emerging markets chief Bhavneet Singh and UKTV CEO Darren Childs.

Former NBCUniversal International president Pete Smith is Antenna’s managing director.
