All3Media has acquired Betty and Raw in a double deal with one of its parent companies, Discovery Communications.

Betty is the prodco behind Bear Grylls: Mission Survive, while Raw produces Gold Rush. All3Media International will distribute all upcoming programming from the pair going forwards.

All3Media is owned by Discovery and Liberty Global after they teamed to buy the UK-headquartered production and distribution giant in early 2014. Discovery, meanwhile, acquired Betty and Raw in 2011 and 2014 respectively.

Both make shows for Discovery, but the move to house them within All3 sees the companies move away from the channel operator, and aligns them with other programme makers within the UK-based production group. They will sit alongside 24 other production entities following the deal.

“Raw and betty are both incredibly strong creative businesses with very exciting production and development slates and hugely talented and well respected teams,” said Jane Turton, All3Media’s CEO.

“Acquiring Raw and betty strengthens our content offering and talent base, in the UK, US and internationally.”

Marc Graboff, president, global business and legal affairs, production management and studios for Discovery said: “Since launching our joint venture with All3Media, we have gained an even greater appreciation for the company’s dynamic and creative ecosystem, and we are confident that theirs is the best environment in which to nurture further growth and success for these two outstanding production companies.”

As well as Gold Rush and Harley and the Davidsons for Discovery, Raw made CNN’s Race for the White House, BBC One’s The Doctor Who Gave Up Drugs, BBC Two’s Conviction and Murder at the Station, and the feature film The Imposter.

Raw founder Dimitri Doganis said: “We’ve enjoyed our relationship with Discovery and very much hope that will continue at the programming level as we look to explore new opportunities and funding models going forward with the team at All3Media.”

Betty made Everest Rescue for Discovery as well as a slew of shows for Channel 4 including The Undateables, Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners and The Autistic Gardener for Channel 4.

Joint managing directors Neil Smith and Matthew Littleford said: “We’re really looking forward to growing our business even further, developing and making some great new shows, selling them to an even wider audience and continuing to be a place where people really enjoy working.”
