UK-Brazil coproduction treaty ratified

The UK and Brazil production treaty has finally been formalised, smoothing the way for TV and film coproductions between the two countries.

The pact was negotiated by the British Film Institute on the UK side, with support from the UK government, and the Brazilian Film Agency (BRAVI).

Productions covered by the treaty will be given national status in each country, meaning they can access relevant tax and incentive schemes, and film and TV funds, in Brazil and the UK.

The copro treaty follows a separate agreement signed by Brazil and UK indie production bodies ABPITV and PACT designed to foster better ties between prodcos in both countries.

It was agreed several years ago, but ratification took a long time because of political uncertainty in Brazil.
