Hulu bags Pure Canadian drama for US SVOD

Scripted-logo-460_2Pure key artUS streaming service Hulu has acquired exclusive local streaming rights to Canadian drama Pure.

The deal, a first between Hulu and distributor Cineflix Rights, will see the drama premiering exclusively on the broadcaster-backed on-demand service.

Pure comes from Two East Productions and CIneflix, and was originally form Canuck pubcaster CBC, where it has become the network’s top new drama.

The story follows a Mennonite pastor trying to protect his family and preserve his faith while battle drug traffickers within his community. It is based on a true story and comes from Michael Amo (The Listerner).

“Purestarted with an extremely unique, lean-in premise and has grown into a taut, compulsively-watchable crime drama,” said Peter Emerson, president of Cineflix Media.

“We could not be more excited about Hulu coming on board and look forward to its launch in the US. With Pure sold to Hulu and Marcella to Netflix, we see a bright and exciting future for Cineflix in the premium-scripted content space.”
