BBC starts streaming news on Hulu Japan

Digital-headerThe BBC has started streaming its international news channel on the Hulu on-demand service in Japan.

The linear BBC World News net is the first streamed news channel on the service and marks the first time that the UK pubcaster the BBC has launched its channel on an SVOD service.It will run around the clock.

The BBC said there will be a dedicated mobile service too, rolling out later this year.

The ad-free news net is available in English and Japanese on Hulu and will sit alongside the BBC’s dedicated Japanese-language website BBC.jp.

“As the world becomes more interconnected and global news events increase in regularity and relevance, we know our audiences want access to the BBC’s world-class impartial news wherever they are – at home or on the move,” said Chris Davies, commercial director for BBC Global News.

“This latest deal is part of our strategy to ensure that people can stay up-to-date in more ways than ever.”

Hulu Japan has different owners to its US equivalent after Nippon TV acquired it in 2014.
