Hulu orders Marvel pilot

Scripted-logo-460_2US streaming service has ordered a Marvel Television pilot based on a comic book series about six teenagers who unite against their evil parents.

The SVOD service has order a pilot of Marvel’s Runaways, which is a coproduction between two Walt Disney Company production companies – Marvel TV and ABC Signature.

Further to that Disney, which bought Marvel Entertainment in 2009, is a co-owner of Hulu along with Comcast, 21st Century Fox and Time Warner.

Runaways comes from showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (The O.C., Gossip Girl), who executive produce along with Marvel’s head of television, Jeph Loeb (Jessica Jones, Luke Cage) and Jim Chory. Lis Rowinski (Fake Empire) will produce.

The series will be based on the comic book series of the same name from Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona.

“We’ve known the Runaways’ story would make great television,” said Loeb. “Being lucky enough to have Josh and Stephanie – who have time and again created shows that speak so genuinely to this exact audience – write and produce the series is nothing short of remarkable.”
“I’m a long-time fan of Runaways and couldn’t be more excited to bring Brian and Adrian’s characters to life,” said Schwartz.

FX, with the upcoming Legion, and Cinemax, through an adaptation of Scarlet, are also working on Marvel TV series.

ABC still has Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but dropped Marvel’s Agent Carter in May.
