CBC names interim kids chief after Markle exit

Kids-logo-460_2Canadian pubcaster CBC has named Marie McCann interim senior director of Kids CBC following the recent exit of Martin Markle.

A CBC spokesman confirmed McCann had been upped to the position “while we take the time to consider a longer plan”.

McCann has worked in children’s television for two decades, and has been with CBC since January this year, when she was hired as one of two executives in charge of Kids CBC production working under senior director Markle.

She had previously worked for CBC between 2007 and 2012, and has led TVO’s preschool team, where she oversaw development of shows such as Gisele’s Big Backyard.

Her appointment comes after it emerged Markle had left his post less than twelve months after taking it. He had succeeded Kim Wilson, who had left the previous April after 14 years with the pubcaster.

The CBC spokesman said McCann was “an award winning children’s television producer with over 20 years experience, having worked in both production and development”.
