Amazon buys BBCWW-sold edutainment show

Kids-logo-460_2Phonics SchoolAmazon Prime Video has added Phonics School, a 16x5mins cartoon from London-based edutainment specialist EnablinGenius.

This comes after a deal with distributor BBC Worldwide Learning.

Phonics School is billed as “an enchanting animated series that introduces preschoolers to phonics – the method children are taught to read and write”.

It follows Phonikers – letters of the alphabet – as they learn to masters their natural powers to transform anything beginning with their sounds and changing them back tracing their shapes.

“Edutainment is a growing market opportunity for quality producers as both parents and original content commissioners seek quality content globally,” said Jesse Janson, president of JansonMedia, Amazon’s digital partner on the deal.

Amazon has been pushing heavily into original kids TV series, with its edutainment line line-up comprising part of that. It recently closed an exclusive deal with US pubcaster PBS kids content.
