MediaWorks names CEO, CFO to exit

New Zealand-based broadcaster and producer MediaWorks has named a local media industry veteran as its new CEO.

Michael AndersonOztam and oOH! Media chairman Michael Anderson (pictured) is taking up the role to succeed Mark Weldon, who left abruptly in May.

Anderson’s appointment comes as acting chief executive David Chalmers, who is also permanent CFO, announced he was leaving the business. He has been named CFO of New Zealand telco Spark NZ.

Anderson will take up his post on August 29. “On behalf of the board, I am thrilled to welcome Michael to MediaWorks,” said MediaWorks chairman Rod McGeoch.

“This is a pivotal time for the media industry and with many years of high profile media experience – as a chief executive, a board director and in sales – Michael brings the perfect credentials to lead MediaWorks through these dynamic times.”

MediaWorks owns TV channels, radio stations and digital platforms. Its television network include free-to-air nets TV3, which is a major formats and international drama buyer, and Bravo, the latter of which is a joint venture with NBCUniversal International Networks and plays Top Chef Chef, Made in Chelsea and Lip Sync Battle.

Anderson was formerly CEO of Australian commercial radio group Austereo. He held that post for seven years, and previously group director of sales.
