Shots Fired at Fox

US broadcaster Fox has ordered an event drama that looks into the dangerous aftermath of racially-charged police shooting in the American South.

Shots Fired comes from Beyond the Lights pair Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood, and will debut in 2016.

Undisputed Cinema and Imagine Television are coproducing in association with 20th Century Fox Television.

The series sees Sanaa Lathan (Family Guy) plays an investigator and a special prosecutor examining the repercussions of a police shooting with racial undertones in a small town in Tennessee.

Prince-Bythewood and Rock Bythewood are writing and executive producing, with the former also directing.

“Gina and Reggie have crafted a profoundly moving portrayal of a timely and sensitive issue that pervades our culture at this very moment,” said David Madden, president, entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

“This is not only an important story to tell, but also an explosive mystery-thriller, and we couldn’t be in better hands both with the creative team behind this, along with the very talented Sanaa Lathan leading the cast.”
Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo are also executive producing.
