SVOD platform goes live across Canada

iZOMBIESubscription on-demand service Shomi is now available to all internet-connected consumers in Canada.

The service was previously available to customers of joint venture parents Rogers Communications and Shaw Communications, but has now expanded its reach, a move first first mooted in May this year.

The platform launched in beta in November 2014, and has since scored a batch of content agreements, acquiring shows such as ABC comedy Fresh Off the Boat from Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution.

Other exclusive shows on the platform include Empire, Vikings, Transparent, Jane the Virgin, Outlander, Sons of Anarchy, Black Sails and iZombie (pictured).

“Today is an epic day for Canadian entertainment lovers as we deliver on the promise we made to them back in May,” said David Asch, senior VP and general manager, Shomi. “We announced we would be moving in, and today we’ve arrived. Shomi is now available to all Canadians.”

Canada’s SVOD market has expanded in recent years, with Shomi now competing with Netflix and Bell Media’s CraveTV.
