The format features celebrities going head to head – lip-syncing the song of their choice – battling for bragging rights.
Talent appearing in the first run of the US series included Dwayne Johnson, Justin Bieber and Jennifer Lopez. Based on a segment in Jimmy Fallon’s US talkshow and the first offering from his prodco Eight Million Plus, the show is hosted by LL Cool J.
The Chinese version will run on the tv.sohu.com site as well as range of other Sohu digital sites.
Viacom International Media Networks distributes the series and launched it internationally at MIPTV.
As well as going out on MTV in the US, the finished version also goes out on the recently–launched free-to-air Spike channel in the UK. In the US it launched in March and a second season has been commissioned.
VIMN also confirmed another format deal for Lip Sync Battle today, with TVN in Chile ordering a local version.
The free-to-air channel will run a 12x70mins series, Lip Sync Chile: Duelo De Famosos, hosted by Chilean journalist and TV presenter Karen Doggenweiler.
