Sky Online launches on Android in Germany

Sky in Germany has launched its standalone internet TV service, Sky Online, on Android smartphones and tablets.

The service, which lets customers pay to access Sky content for a monthly fee with no contract, is now available on Google Nexus 5 phones and Nexus 7 tablets, as well as a range of Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

Similar to Sky’s Now TV service in the UK, Sky Online offers two pay-monthly options – a starter pack and a film pack – plus single-day sports passes to watch all of Sky’s live sports, including Bundesliga football.

Julia Schuler, vice president of product development at Sky Germany said that the premium digital service offers customers more flexibility. “With the availability on Android devices we address additional target groups, who want to see our film, series and sports programming while on the move,” she said.

At launch, the following Android smartphones and tablets will support Sky Online: Google Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, S4mini, S5, S5 mini, grade 2, grade 3, grade 10.1 and Tab 3 (7.0, 10.1), Table 4 (7.0, 10.1) and Tab S (8.4, 10.5).

Sky Online is already available online, on the iPhone, iPad, Xbox One, Samsung Smart TVs and on the Sky Online TV Box.
