Beta seals CCTV drama deal

VELVETBeta Film has sealed a raft of Asian sales including shopping a pair of drama series to China’s CCTV, TBI understands.

The German-based distributor, which was meeting Asian buyers at the Busan Contents Market last week, has sold Spanish period drama Velvet (left) to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.

The series, which has been called the ‘Spanish Downton, is produced by Spanish prodco Bambu Producciones and airs on Antena 3 in Spain.

CCTV has also picked up the second season of another Spanish period drama, Grand Hotel, also from Bambu and for Antena 3.

TBI understands Beta is also close to sealing a Chinese deal for Line of Separation, one of the new crop of high-end period dramas coming out of Germany.

The deals were among several Asian sales for Beta. Elsewhere it has sold Canadian cop series King to A+E Networks International, which has picked up rights for Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
