HBO and Scorsese making Shutter Island TV series

HBO and Martin Scorsese are developing Ashecliffe, a TV series based on the director’s Shutter Island feature.

Paramount released the original movie in 2010 and its TV arm, Paramount Television, will produce the TV spin-off. One of the stars of the movie, Leonardo DiCaprio, is among the executive producers.

The TV series will be set in the years before the events that unfolded in the film and focus on events in and around the Ashecliffe hospital for the criminally insane.

The pilot script will be written by Dennis Lehane who wrote the 2003 novel Shutter Island. His TV writing credits include The Wire and Boardwalk Empire.
