BBC Decimates daytime with quiz from Tipping Point creator

UK public broadcaster the BBC has ordered Decimate, a new daytime quiz series, TBI has learned.

The 25x45mins show will be produced by UK independent producer CPL Productions, the prodco behind A League of Their Own and All Star Mr and Mrs. It will launch this autumn and be presented by UK personality Shane Richie.

In the series, three contestants compete for a cash sum that is reduced by 10% for a wrong answer, with a top prize of £20,000 (US$34,000). The BBC is expected to officially unveil the series later today (June 17).

Red Arrow will distribute the series internationally.

Decimate has been created by Hugh Rycroft, the London-based writer and gameshow inventor behind Tipping Point, the RDF Television-produced quiz that has proved popular on commercial channel ITV. It has run to four seasons on ITV since starting in 2012 and spawned a celebrity version.

The Decimate green light will be the second quiz order from the BBC this week after it gave a full commission to Win Your Wish List, the Victory Television-produced show that will go out in the BBC’s weekly Saturday night lottery slot, starting in early 2015.

The 8x60mins series has contestants draw up their own wish list of prizes, which they then compete to win. Victory is backed by Sony Pictures Television, which is expected to distribute the Win Your Wish List format internationally.

Decimate was commissioned by controller BBC Daytime, Damian Kavanagh and commissioning Editor Pam Cavannagh. Jane O’Brien will be the series producer.
