Web ad revenues surpass TV

Internet advertising in the US has exceeded TV advertising revenues for the first time.

Internet advertising in the US in 2013 amounted to US$42.8 billion, up 17% year-on-year, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau.

TV advertising meanwhile turned over US$40.1 billion in 2013.

Mobile ad revenues boosted the online total, rising by 11.% to US$7.1 billion. Mobile accounted for 17% of overall internet advertising in 2013, up from 9% a year earlier, with the share accounted by other formats – including search, display, digital video and classifieds – remaining more or less stable or declining slightly.
