Germany’s Wham Bam Scam set for US remake

German scripted reality format Wham Bam Scam has been acquired for a remake in the US.

Atlas Media Corp. has picked up rights to the show, which has broadcast in Germany on RTL for seven years, from distributor Global Screen.

The format gives the scripted reality treatment to explosive situations such as a woman discovering by accident her loving husband has another family in another city. Atlas bills it as a “unique format that transforms this high octane conflict-resolution material into the scripted reality era”.

“This form of scripted reality is a proven hit in Europe and is ready for its close-up in the US. This format, with its unique production style, will absolutely connect with American viewers, and the initial response to it has been extraordinary,” said Atlas president and executive producer Bruce David Klein.

Atlas is behind US cable series for the likes of Discovery Channel, E! Entertainment, Travel Channel and A&E.
