News brief: History gears up for petrolheads series

History Channel in the UK has commissioned local indie Splash Media to create a new automotive restoration series following success with the similarly-themed Counting Cars.

Ultimate Wheels will be a 8x60mins series in which two “creative petrolheads” customise a variety of cars. It will launch in spring 2014.

Counting Cars is currently a “top-performing series” on History, according to channel owner A+E Networks UK.

Rachel Job, channel editor for History & H2 said: “Ultimate Wheels is a completely new take on the car restoration genre, featuring  one-off imaginative transformations that will appeal to History fans and car enthusiasts alike.”
