Cisneros Media relaunches distribution outfit

Cisneros Media, owner of Venezuelan broadcaster Venevision and US Spanish-language Venevision Productions, has rebranded its distribution arm ahead of NATPE.

For the last 35 years Cisneros’ content has been sold by distributor Venevision International, with 30,000 hours bought in more than 100 countries and 20 languages, according to the company.

However, the distributor has now been replaced by Cisneros Media Distribution, a newly-formed Miami outfit to be run by Cesar Diaz, previously VP, sales for Venevision International.

The company will make its debut at NATPE 2014 on 27-29 January, where it will present a variety of telenovela, action, cinema, documentary and comedy content to the market.

The announcement follows a raft of restructuring moves by Cisneros at the end of last year, including the appointment of Juan Carlos Sosa to VP, operations at Venevision Studios in November and Adriana Cisneros’ replacing of Steven Bandel as CEO of the company in the same month.

Previously in September, Jonathan Blum had been named president of Cisneros Media.

Speaking of the new distributor, Blum said: “Cisneros Media Distribution is determined to remain at the forefront of the entertainment industry as it builds on the sound foundation established by its predecessor, Venevision International, having a strong brand, an excellent reputation and a robust international client-base.”

Diaz, VP of CMD, added: “It’s much more than a change of the company’s name, we have a new corporate mission that spans the globe, expanding with industry innovation as technology breaks down geographical boundaries, distribution barriers and the manner in which audiences view entertainment content.”
