Hulu unveils 2014 originals, acquisitions

The_Bridge_bronbroenieps1US streaming site Hulu has unveiled a deep slate of original programmes and new acquisitions for 2014 that includes a raft of content from international partners.

NBCU, Fox and Disney-owned Hulu announced seventeen new or returning series yesterday including Deadbeat, its first copro with Lionsgate. The 10x30mins supernatural comedy will debut in April, be exec produced by Troy Miller (Flight of the Conchords) and follow a hapless medium played by Tyler Labine (Reaper) as he helps ghosts finish unfinished business.

Another new show is The Hotwives of Orlando from Paramount Digital Entertainment. The seven-episode show will parody the Real Housewives-type reality shows popular on US cable TV.

Hulu has also picked up hot Scandi drama The Bridge (pictured) from distributor ZDF Enterprises. The show has recently been adapted for US cable net FX and Hulu has taken the original Swedish/Danish version.

There are four series on the Hulu slate from BBC Worldwide including season two of Irish-set, Baby Cow-produced comedy Moone Boy, season three of Little Comet, BBC-produced teen comedy Pram Face and season three of Big Talk-produced comedy Rev. There is also a new show, The Next Step, a teen drama about a group of dancers from Orphan Black producer Temple Street.

There are two shows from All3Media International, season three of comedy series Fresh Meat and season seven of constructed reality show The Only Way is Essex.

Season two of Content Media-distributed cop series Line of Duty is also on the slate as is season two of DCD Rights-distributed hit Australian comedy Moody Family.

From Canada’s Breakthrough Entertainment there is 13x30mins animated comedy series Mother Up, which is voiced by, among others, Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives).

Other returning series include Seth Myers animated comedy The Awesomes, sports mascot series Behind the Mask, western drama Quick Draw and model reality series Elite New Face.
