Vodafone’s Kabel Deutschland deal approved

Vodafone has secured European Commission approval for its takeover of Kabel Deutschland.

The EC competition authority said that it had no objections to the takeover of Germany’s largest cable operator by the mobile telecoms giant.

According to the Commission, which approved the acquisition without conditions, said the deal will not have a significant impact on competition in the markets in which the two companies are active.

“The Commission’s investigation confirmed that the activities of the merging parties were mainly complementary,” the EU said. “While Kabel Deutschland primarily offers cable TV, fixed line telephony and internet access services, Vodafone’s core business consists of mobile telephony services.”

The decision paves the way for Vodafone to finalise its acquisition of Kabel Deutschland, with completion expected on October 14.
