MIPTV News: Japanese Treasure Box opening again at MIPTV

Japan’s leading free-to-air broadcasters will launch a raft of new formats at MIPTV under the Treasure Box Japan banner.

Backed by the Japanese government, the group embarked on a formats push at MIPCOM and will follow that up and introduce a range of new content in Cannes later this month.

Treasure Box Japan comprises public broadcaster NHK and its commercial counterparts NTV, TV Asahi, TBS, TV Tokyo, Fuji, ABC and YTV. They will have a dedicated session at the MIP Formats event held in advance of MIPTV.

Each will showcase new formats at the event. NHK and its commercial arm NEP will show BrainFlash!, NTV A-ha! Experience, TV Asahi No Brainer, TBS Athletic Fire, Fuji Clockhanger, ABC Far Away Neighbors and YTV The Secret is Out!

The initiative is backed by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), which has recently implemented a policy to actively help promote and localise Japanese content globally.
