CBS starts streaming full episodes to iPads and iPhones

CBS has launched a new app that allows iPad and iPhone users to stream full episodes of TV shows from the US broadcast network.

Content from CBS’primetime, daytime and late night schedules will be available. Daytime and late night shows will be available to stream a day after their air date and most primetime shows eight days later.

The app, which is free, will also incorporate second screen features for a range of CBS shows including procedurals NCIS (pictured), CSI: Crime Scene Investigation as well daytime soap The Young and the Restless and talk show The Late Show with David Letterman.

The US net said it will introduce an Android and Windows 8 version of its streaming app later this year.

“We have been methodically and strategically finding new ways to satiate the appetite for our content on new platforms, while tapping into the tremendous revenue provided by doing so,” said Leslie Moonves, president and CEO, CBS Corporation.

Moonves added: “Our announcement today achieves both of these objectives, while protecting our very healthy current ecosystem. In addition, by making our shows available on all the leading mobile devices out there, we are confident we will bring a whole new set of viewers to the CBS Television Network.
