Industry groups agree online rights deal with Canal+

Two groups representing French content creation professionals’ intellectual property rights have agreed a deal with Canal+ to allow the latter to exploit their rights for subscription video-on-demand service CanalPlay Infinity.

Collective rights management groups SACD and ADAGP have authorised Canal Plus to use works for which they manage the rights after agreeing a remuneration deal.

The three parties said the deal reaffirmed their commitment to develop a legal on-demand offering that allowed viewers to have access to content online. The deal is the first between France’s collecting societies and an SVOD service.

CanalPlay Infinity, Canal Plus’s recently launched SVOD service, delivers titles from content providers including StudoCanal, Gaumont, Pathé, the BBC, Sony, Disney and Warner for €9.99 a month.
