Discovery making Lat-Am Dual Survival

Discovery is making a new version of its hit US show Dual Survival for the Latin American market, Michela Giorelli, VP of production and development for Discovery Networks Latin America/US Hispanic has told TBIvision. The Latin series will stretch to six one-hour instalments and Brian Lovett, the executive producer of the Original TV-produced US series is overseeing production.

Like its US counterpart, the Lat-Am version will showcase the skills of two survival experts. “We’re making Dual Survival Brazil – we have found two interesting guys, one who used to be in the air force and another spent a long time in the Amazon with an Indian tribe when he was a child.

The show is being produced by Brazilian indie producer Mixer and will deliver in May for a June premiere and Discovery will air it across its Lat-Am networks.

Discovery Networks Latin America had two series picked up by Discovery in the US and internationally last year – Maya Apocalypse and one-off doc Drug Kingpin Hippos – and has high hopes that the new version of Dual Survivor will be see outside of the region. “We will talk to Julian [Bellamy, DNI’s creative director and head of production) about this airing around the world,” Giorelli said. “It would be difficult for it to play in some markets like the UK, but could play in Italy, France, Russia or other international markets.”

Giorelli added: “We definitely want to do more survival shows, it is a big genre for us.” One priority is that finding a Bear Grylls-type character from Latin America to make a regional version of Born Survivor/Man Vs. Wild, she said.
