Starz, BBCWW develop Da Vinci’s Demons

US cable network Starz Entertainment has commissioned Da Vinci’s Demons from Flash Forward creator David Goyer. This is the first series to be developed as part of its multi-year production deal with BBC Worldwide.

The two companies struck an overall deal in August following the launch of Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood: Miracle Day that will see the two coproduce up to 100 hours of programming.

Da Vinci’s Demons, which was written by The Dark Knight writer Goyer, tells the “untold” story of the twenty five year old Renaissance artist. The eight-episode order is set to begin production in early 2012.

“Just like the theatrical business the TV business will increasingly look to international revenue as a piece of how you evaluate return on investment. It’s happening already and will continue to happen,” Chris Albrecht, chief executive and chairman of Starz, told TBIvision.

The show is expected to air in the US in 2013 and BBC Worldwide will distribute the series internationally.
