AMC orders The Killing to full series

US cable network AMC has picked up a local version of Danish miniseries Forbrydelsen (The Killing) to order.

The basic cable channel has picked up the 13x1hour series, which was originally distributed by the sales arm of Danish public broadcaster DR.

The US version of the show will be produced by Fox TV Studios and will be exec produced by Fuse Entertainment’s Mikkel Bondesen, who originally brought the format to the States, and Cold Case showrunner Veena Sud.

Forbrydelsen was originally a coproduction between DR, Norwegian public broadcaster NRK and Swedish public broadcaster SVT.

AMC will air the series next year and is the network’s fifth series pick up following Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Rubicon and The Walking Dead. It will star Big Love’s Mireille Enos as a homicide detective and each episode will tie together three stories around a single murder.

The finished version of the show is expected to be distributed internationally by 20th Century Fox Television Distribution.
