Branson’s Virgin sets up TV and film division with Relativity

The Virgin Group has launched a TV and film production company, Virgin Produced.

Richard Branson’s Virgin said that, at launch, its mission is clear: ”to enter markets with opportunities to shake things up and offer a better experience’.

The production company will be run as a joint venture between Virgin and Rogue Pictures, the film producer acquired by Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity Media from NBC universal last year.

It will be run by Jason Felts and Justin Berfield, formerly producers at J2TV / J2 Pictures, which made Sons of Tuscon for US network Fox. Felts is CEO of the new operation and Berfield, who also produced Malcolm in the Middle, is chief creative officer, overseeing all development.

“Jason and Justin’s approach is very entrepreneurial, very Virgin,” said Richard Branson. “We share a passion for creating and nurturing communities of talent and fresh material.”

Virgin Produced did not announce any TV-specific projects. It said its first film will be Peter Farrelly’s Movie 43.
