Eurosport wants to launch in Africa and Latin America

Sports broadcaster Eurosport has told TBIvision that the next stage of its development will see it launch services in Africa and Latin America.

The TF1-backed broadcaster is widely distributed throughout Europe and has successfully rolled out an Asian feed in recent years.

“Going outside Europe is something that is very interesting for us and we will continue to do it in the future,” Eurosport chairman and CEO Laurent-Eric Le Lay said. “We’re looking at Africa and considering whether Latin America will offer international opportunities.”

Speaking to TBIvision LeLay added: “Africa and Latin America are very interesting opportunities for Eurosport – we could use TV or new media to enter those markets – we have already organized events in both regions.”

LeLay wouldn’t be drawn on when the first launches might take place, but it is understood Eurosport would like to establish a presence in Africa this year.
