Sony’s LA formats boss leaving this week

Hayley Babcock, Sony Pictures Television’s senior VP, strategic creative development, international production at Sony Pictures TV is leaving the company, TBIvision understands.

Babcock’s role involved acting as a conduit between Sony’s US and international production hubs and she was responsible for acquiring and developing formats and managing their international roll out.

In a note to contacts she said that the company’s international format production focus is now centred on the UK and Holland, she was not prepared to move overseas again and it was time for her to leave.

SPT has staffed up internationally in recent times. In the UK it recently appointed Victoria Ashbourne. She joined from CPL (formerly Celador) in March and is senior VP of creative development for international production.

Before leaving for Sony in 2007, Babcock was senior VP of production at Fox’s formats division, working on shows including Joe Millionaire and My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance.

She is not understood to be immediately moving to another company, but when contacted by TBIvision and asked about her plans said she was having a ‘number of interesting conversations’. Her last day at Sony will be this Friday.
