Sony buys 100hr package from BBC Worldwide

Sony Pictures Television has bought a 114hr package of programming from BBC Worldwide. The shows will air on SPT’s AXN and AXN Sci-Fi cable channels throughout Central and Eastern Europe.

The package includes hit sci-fi series Doctor Who and its popular spin-off Torchwood as well as CGI-laden dinosaur drama series Primeval.

The AXN channels are carried on pay TV platforms throughout the CEE region in countries including the Czech Republic, Hungary, Serbia and Macedonia.

The deal was brokered for Sony by Eddie Nelson, general manager of SPT’s channels business in the region.

BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the UK public broadcaster, announced the deal as its BBC Showcase sales event kicked off in Brighton, England. The event is attended by 500 international buyers.
