Sony-owned Crackle acquires Disney’s web series Trenches

Sony Pictures-owned online video site Crackle has acquired Stage 9 Digital-produced sci fi web series Trenches. This follows the collapse of the Disney-owned digital production company last year.

Trenches, a 10x6mins series, was one of the flagship series to be produced by Stage 9, which was headed up by Sex and the City producer Barry Jossen. However, the division was folded into abc.com in January 2009, making it unclear whether Trenches, which cost US$250,000 to produce, would ever be released.

The series will launch on crackle.com in February. Director Shane Felux, who directed hit Star Wars fan film Star Wars: Revelations, said: “Trenches will be their big release for the month of February.. Ahh the month of love, and scifi action war… oh yeah!”

Trenches, which was written by Dawn Cowings and Sarah Yaworsky, stars The Wire’s Micci Sampery and The Good Shepherd’s Lev Gorn and follows a group of soldiers on a war torn planet forced to battle merciless beasts as part of a rescue attempt.
