Friedman Meir leaves Nat Geo Kids

Nat Geo Kids president Donna Friedman Meir has left the children’s arm of the factual broadcaster and is expected to launch her own startup in the near future.

Tara Sorensen and Darren Metzger will head up the division in the short term under the guidance Nat Geo Entertainment president David Beal .

In a note announcing her departure, she wrote: “I am currently exploring what my next adventure will be. Up until now, I’ve always helped grow ventures/projects/networks from the ground up for other companies, I am now musing on the exciting and scary possibility of building something on my own.”

Meir, who previously headed up the Kids WB! and has also worked at Nickelodeon, has set up a consultancy in the meantime, Lemonade Creative Consulting.

Nat Geo Kids has found some success in the kids arena with series including preschool animated series Toot and Puddle, animal series Mama Mirabelle’s Home Movies and global adventure series Are We There Yet?

She also hinted at some changes at the company, which are expected to be announced in the coming months. “Tara Sorensen and Darren Metzger will continue to lead the kids entertainment charge at what will be an exciting new chapter for the division… stay tuned for more news on that soon,” she added.
