Random House sets up kids prodco

Bertelsmann-backed publisher Random House is setting up a UK-based kids production company that will exploit its range of books and kids characters. Random house Children’s Screen Entertainment will be a joint venture with producer Komixx Entertainment.

Random House has a raft of in-house and licensed intellectual property. Titles include Astrosaurs and Princess Poppy and licensed properties include live-action drama series Merlin.

Komixx is a Swiss-backed UK-based producer and is currently making Toby’s Toy Circus for Nickelodeon.

Catherine Robins, the managing director of UK indie 2 Sides TV will also hold a minority stake in the new entity and a management position. 2 Sides is already working with Komixx on a 60-episode kids series aimed at nursery age viewers, Billie’s Big Adventures.
