Mad Men’s Weiner inks deal with Lionsgate

Mad Men creator, writer and exec producer Matthew Weiner has inked a deal that will see him continue with the hit period drama for two years.

Weiner inked the deal with producer and distributor Lionsgate after months of nervous negotiations. The two parties disagreed over financial terms and it has been reported that Weiner will earn US$9 million over two seasons. Cable network AMC will cover some of these costs.

The basic cable network announced last week that the show would return for a third season, before Weiner and Lionsgate had agreed a deal. The show will return in the summer.

The agreement also covers the development of a number of new television projects as well as a feature film.

Mad Men, which follows a group of 1960’s advertising execs on Madison Avenue, has been a major hit for AMC and has also sold well internationally with broadcasters including the BBC and Australia’s Movie Network acquiring the series.
