No Ordinary Family is an action adventure series that follows a family that discovers it has superpowers when their plane crash lands into the Amazon River. It is set to be one of US network's ABC big fall launches
"This is not Heroes. It is not The Incredibles. This is No Ordinary Family," said Michael Chiklis, who stars as Jim Powell, at the recent Television Critics Association summer press tour.
Chiklis, who previously starred as The Shield's Vick Mackey, sees his character, a police artist, develop super strength and the ability to jump buildings, while his wife, played by Dexter's Julie Benz, develops super speed.
The show also stars Damages' Tate Donovan and Entourage's Autumn Reeser.
The show, which is produced by ABC Studios, was created by Brothers & Sisters and Dirty Sexy Money exec producer Greg Berlanti and Dawsons' Creek writer Jon Harmon Feldman and the pilot was directed by David Semel, who has worked on Heroes and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
"It's kind of a fun throwback to some of the action adventure series I watched so much as a kid," said Berlanti. "As audiences get more sophisticated you try to blend genres. We wanted to make something the whole family could watch together."
The show, which is distributed internationally by Disney Media Distribution, will launch on September 28.
